Smoking Weed in Hawaii?

I am finding as word gets out among people who know me, I have two questions every single person I know, or that knows me through a friend asks me. “You going to smoke that famous Hawaiian weed?” or “how hard is it to find some puff in Hawaii?”

I cannot help but laugh at these questions. Still, in the back of my mind I wonder just a little, why I am not asked if I am going to visit the volcanoes or am I going to learn to surf. Something along these lines. Yet, everybody wants to know about Marijuana in Hawaii!

Yes, Hawaii is famous for the best cannabis on earth, everybody knows this. Who does not know, “Maui Wowie” or “Kona Gold”? Even people who do not smoke cannabis know of these strains. I guess this is why everybody keeps asking me if I am going to smoke it when I get to Hawaii.

Answering the 2nd question first, I have no idea just how hard it is to buy a 0

Judging by these prices alone, I am going to go out on a limb and say that cannabis is not going to be too hard to find in Hawaii. I do have another reason that leads me to believe that cannabis is pretty easy to find on the big island of Hawaii.

In 2008 the big island of Hawaii or Hawaii County the voters there passed a ballot initiative named, Question 1, the Lowest Law Enforcement Priority of Cannabis Ordinance, with 34,957 votes for, to 25,464 against. It is now known as Chapter 14 Article 16 of the Hawaii County Code making cannabis the lowest priority for Hawaii County Police and Prosecutors. Under this county ordinance, adults over the age of 21 may cultivate and possess up to 24 plants or 24 ounces of dried material on private property. The law makes it illegal for Hawaii County to accept any funds for marijuana eradication programs. It also prohibits County Law Enforcement officials from being deputized or commissioned by Federal agencies for any activity that is inconsistent with the ordinance

I also would like to point out that Chapter 14 Article 16 of the Hawaii County Code has been ruled unenforceable. Which basically means it’s a law that is ignored by law enforcement. Let us not forget an important point here: 34,957 people voted in favor of this law. That’s well more than half of the people that took the time to vote. Another major indicator that there are a good number of people smoking it, thereby making it a lot easier to get.

Another thing it should point out is there is a bill to decriminalize Marijuana state-wide that was passed unanimously to Decriminalize Marijuana has a huge amount of support for it. This law as of Feb. 2014 is still working through the process. Basically it would mean anyone with 20 grams or less would get a $100 fine for the first offense. Then the fine would climb higher for each offense after the first one.

It should also be noted that a bill to legalize recreational marijuana in Hawaii died in committee. At least for now, as all the stories i saw pointed out.

To end i would like to answer the question i am most commonly asked. “am i going to smoke pakalolo in Hawaii?”  YES, if it crosses my path.
